Principles of Intelligent Urbanism(part nineteen)

Principle seven:Opportunity matrix

Principle of Intelligent Urbanism envisions city as an environment for personal development, social and economic development.

Access to health care, human resource development and shelter should be crucial.

PIU targets increasing safety and hygiene.

For urban citizens city is also an engine for economic growth. From their point of view important is the urban balance of trade and also the sustained employment.

Principles of Intelligent Urbanism(part eighteen)

Human Scale

PIU thinks that urban chaos can or could be avoided if pedestrian circulation would be developed.

Shopping possibilities, other amenities, basic social services must be developed around public transporting. The main task is the integration of public spaces into residential and commercial areas.

Social activities should orient towards open public spaces.

Principle of Intelligent Urbanism(part seventeen)

Principle six:human scale

PIU encourages formation of walkable, pedestrian oriented urban villages.

All this concept is a consequence of an urban planning and politics, aiming friendly and free meeting of people.

PIU concept is the promotion of pedestrian circulation as opposed to the car-traffic.

Intelligent Urbanism aiming removing artificial barriers and helps face-to-face contact.

Principles of Intelligent Urbanism(part fifteen)

Intelligent Urbanism takes efficiency promotion in cost effective manner.

In this point of view efficiency relies also on positive and good city planning. This planning promotes some alternative transports, opposed to a dependence on personal vehicles. It means the promotion of public transport, accessible to anyone.

PIU helps complementary social amenities, convenience shopping, recreation, public services in compact.

Principles of Intelligent Urbanism(part thirteen)

1.4.City domain places(part one)

One principle of Intelligent Urbanism is the calling for city domains.

All these public places are plazas, parks, promenades, and so on.

These places are social places, accessible to anyone. Some social places places are free, but museums, for example are accessible for a fee. Public places are regulated by human behavior.

Principles of Intelligent Urbanism(part twelve)

1.3. Community places

The concept of PIU is to design dense, walkable zones in which habitants can recognize each other. The aim for them is also to share facilities and their resources, too.

Community places are opportunities to meet new people, make friendships, and to be active in management services.

Intelligent Urbanism aims to target forming places for friendships also.

The philosophy is that these places are not natural. All these places must be designed conscientiously in urban environs.

(to be continued)

Principles of Intelligent Urbanism(part six)

The fourth principle, conviviality, is the philosophic axiom of PIU theory. This basic principle derives from fact that PIU creates places of solitudes for the individual.

These places can be forests in towns, urban hills, public gardens. Here are the "dialog places with rational minds",reminding to Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Although Intelligent Urbanism helps individuals to mature and grow through self-analysis and self-realization.

Principles of Intelligent Urbanism(part four)

Another important basic of PIU is a Balance with Tradition.

Balance with Tradition has for aim to integrate urban planning with cultural heritage and tradition.

Balance with Tradition respects cultural assests of urbanism.

This axiom seeks wisdom to accord planning with human settlements.

Balance with Tradition promotes architecture related to cultural values.

Principles of Intelligent Urbanism(part three)

Nowdays deforestations, desertifications, erosions, fires accelerate.

This process is the result of breaking of a fragile point which is crossed.

When the border is crossed there is a point of no return when eco-system loses its ability to restore itself. So at that point degradation accelerates.

PIU theory supposes and proposes the reserve of these fragile eco-systems, so PIU theory is that urbanization must be in balance with natural environs.

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

Principles of Intelligent Urbanism(part two)

The first and one of most important philosophy of Intelligent Urbanism is the balance with nature and surrounds.

This balance with nature emphasizes the utilization of resources and the distinction of exploiting resources.

The principle of "balance with nature" axiom is first of all to identify fragile environmental surrounds, threatened ecosystems and help their conservation.

This philosophy promotes also the life cycle building energy consumption and analysis of pollution.

Renewable Energy(part five):Renewable Energy=Domestic Energy

Future predictions are that with the fraction of our current oil investment, it will be possible to create infrastructures and technologies to replace our current fossil fuel infrastructure with renewable energy infrastructures.

All these future renewable energy infrastructures will create new economies, and will create new jobs for millions and millions of people.

The main source for renewable energy is the sun. The sun energy will not last forever. According to scientist predictions, sun will last around our globe and universe for 5 billion years.

Renewable Energy(part five):More Reasons for Renewable Energy

Why to cut down natural gas, coal, oil use? Because pollution and climate change became excessive.

Such an example of fussil fuel use is the raising of traditional cars in last years. Past years about 50 million cars run on using fossil fuels. But we could mention hot water heaters or airplanes.

We already know, that energy sources are on way to run out. Oil sources are approaching their peak production. So consequently oil sources run out, oil prices will raise.

Gasoline prices will raise high, too and gas fueled cars will stay parked.

Renewable Energy(part four):Distributed vs. Centralized Energy

Centralized generation system is a system, where electricity is generated centrally in large amounts and sent out through power lines to houses and businesses.

Distributed system is different:this system is called distributed generation. Such an example for that could be a neighborhood, serie of buildings covered with solar panels. These solar panels continue in small power plants. These power plants are capable to help neighbors, habitants of these buildings appartments to get some extra electricity. Distributed generation is one of advantages of renewable energy on domestic scale.

Another advantage of renewable energy is its flexibility, because renewable energy can work on small systems for distributed generations, or on massive installations for centralized generation.

Renewable Energy (part two)

Energy, our energy comes mainly from fossil fuels like natural gas, coal, oil. All these fuels are the results of millions and millions of years of creation. All these animals and plants puerished, decayed and compressed under their own weight. Huge amount of energies were stored and captured in the process.

The process is the following:once humans dig up fossil fuels, properly called hydrocarbons, we, the humans burn these hydrocarbons. We call this process oxydizing. The energy resulting from this process is transformed to power cars, or any other machines.

In the main process, Carbon atoms latch on to two Oxygen atoms(O).

volunteers in hungarian environmentalism

Agreed to a round table discussion, including Hungarian non-profit organizations, happened last week in Budapest, the number of volunteers coming and working in Hungarian non-profit organizations grown evidently in past 5-6 years.

Volunteer motivation can be different, but there are some main reasons:
-single women searching contacts and love relationship(85 percent of cases)
-high school students are spending their  compulsory volunteer work period(since 60 hrs of volunteer work is compulsory for them, agreed to a new governement decision)
-university and college students, eager to  gather professional experiences and later on become employees of these organizations
-leisure time spending

Volunteering in non-profit ecological organizations is more accentuated, than elsewhere. In environmentalism and ecology, action and participation are very important, and hereby the role of volunteers is enormus.

Nowdays African countries fight against sand in Sahara.

Last summer 11 African countries held a meeting in theme "how to construct the Green Wall in Sahara". The main goal was the stopping of Sahara spreading. Action would be important because there is a real danger that in 2025 Sahara will overwhelm agricultural lands.

The main concept of such a green wall would be the establishment of 15 km forest to stop sand hurricanes.
